(Amra for the Protection of Sundarbans)、達卡的 “我們守護土地” 組織(Dhariti Rakhi Amra)以及 “孟加拉服務” 組織(Service Bangladesh)合作,在國際森林日組織了一次靜坐活動。

NEWS FROM THE MOVEMENT
Apalachicola Riverkeeper(Florida, U.S.) fully supports the "Kill the Drill" bill, House Bill 1143, sponsored by Representatives Jason Shaof and Allison Tant. Many Floridians are actively opposed to companies seeking to drill in the Apalachicola Basin, especially in light of past disasters like the Horizon oil spill, which had catastrophic effects in the Gulf of Mexico and resulted in significant business losses. Therefore, Apalachicola Riverkeeper is urging community members to join their efforts to advocate for the passage of this bill to help protect the Apalachicola Basin.
Black Warrior Riverkeeper(Alabama, U.S.) partnered with the Springville Road Library Youth Department and Birmingham City Council District One to host a free hip-hop program. Executive Director Charles Scribner noted that Black Warrior Riverkeeper has collaborated multiple times with Shaheed, DJ Supreme, Birmingham City Council District 1, and Birmingham Public Library for various events. This particular program focused on conservation and recycling, teaching attendees how to keep local waterways clean.
Catawba Riverkeeper(North Carolina, U.S.) supports a newly proposed piece of state legislation that would eliminate the requirement for off-street parking, such as garages and parking lots that are intentionally located away from public streets. This bill aims to promote affordable housing in Charlotte by reducing the presence of unused parking lots. The proposed legislation has garnered support from many farmers, entrepreneurs, and environmental activists in North Carolina. If passed, the bill would take effect on July 1.
Ocheegee Riverkeeper(Georgia, U.S.) has contacted the Georgia Coastal Resources Division and the Georgia DNR Law Enforcement Division regarding an abandoned boat that is half-submerged in the water. This situation has forced local fishermen to relocate their shrimp and crab traps. The boat appears to be leaking fuel or oil, raising concerns about the safety of placing traps in the contaminated water. According to Chet Linder, a local fisherman, even a single drop of diesel on a crab could lead to significant additional costs for the fishing business.
Cahaba Riverkeeper's(Alabama, U.S.) Founder and Executive Director, Myra Crawford, has announced her retirement, with Cahaba Riverkeeper David Butler set to take the reins as Executive Director beginning April 1. Under Crawford's leadership, the organization significantly grew through the consistent collection of credible scientific data on the Cahaba River, beginning with her initial donation of $5,000 in 2009. Under Crawford's leadership, Cahaba Riverkeeper developed numerous scientific studies and innovative programs, including the flagship Swim Guide program and Cahabapedia, enabling staff and partners to access federal, state, and local agency data easily. Crawford was also valuable in helping Waterkeepers Alabama gain access to a similar platform for their watersheds. Congratulations to Myra and David!
Pashur River Waterkeeper( Bangladesh), along with partners Amra for the Protection of Sundarbans, Dhariti Rakhi Amra (Dhaka), and Service Bangladesh, organized a sit-in on the International Day of Forests. The event aimed to demand an end to all wildlife killings, the protection of the Sundarbans, and the cancellation of projects that threaten to destroy the forests. Currently, the Sundarbans face challenges from occupation and pollution, and without significant changes, the entire forest risks being destroyed.
Waterkeepers BangladeshandPashur River Waterkeeperorganized an event in collaboration with Dharitri Rokkhay Amra (Dhara), featuring coastal women carrying empty water pitchers to symbolize their struggle. Pashur River Waterkeeper activist Md Noor Alam Sheikh emphasized the necessity of water conservation infrastructure and sustainable water resource management.
